Day Eleven and Twelve - McMurdo to Cape Royds and Cape Evans

Late on day eleven we made our way back to the north using the McMurdo ship channel once again. We were enroute to our day twelve stops, the historic huts at Cape Evans and Cape Royds. During the transit of the ship channel, we got our closest look of the trip at a group of emperor penguins.

Once at Cape Royds, the captain "parked" us in the fast ice. Fast ice is sea ice that is attached to the shore. This allowed us to simply drop the gangway and walk ashore. We also visted the historic huts at both Cape Royds (Shackleton) and Cape Evans (Scott). These can be seen on the Historic Huts Gallery Page.
