Day Six - Merkjárfoss, Thorsmork Nature Reserve, Seljalandsfoss.

Day six dawned rainy and cloudy and found us on the way to the Thorsmork Nature Reserve. Thorsmork is a popular summer destination for Icelandic hikers. Our four wheel drive bus came into it's own on day six, fording numerous places on the Markarfljot river to arrive at the mountain hut in Thorsmork where we had lunch. Our first stop on the way to Thorsmork was Merkjárfoss, a very nice double step waterfall. This was followed by a wonderful glacial melt pool at the base of a glacial tongue.

Arriving at the mountain hut area in the Thorsmork Nature Reserve, we took a short hike before lunch. After lunch we traveled back toward our hotel and stopped at what I call the "Green Chasm".
