General Terms
As a general rule I will give permission for free personal use and free non-profit educational use. I also approve of use in astronomical publications or educational magazines and/or websites. I do ask that you to request permission for any use so that I may keep track of the use of my images. Please describe your intended use in your request. If the image is to be used on a webpage, please provide me with a link to the page where it will be used so I can determine if the use is appropriate for my images.

Use of Images for Science and Accuracy of the Images
Anyone considering use of my images for scientific purposes should be aware that the images seen here are not raw data and have been subjected to non-linear processing and esthetic editing. This is normally done to reveal details that simpler processing cannot. Nonetheless, I believe these images to be a very good representation of the object shown and I have done my best to show the object as it really is. My basic processing rule is to sometimes remove what is not really there but to never add what is not really there (unfortunately, some astro-imagers do add things). I also generally try to avoid garish and excessive color saturation which is why my images may often look somewhat more pale than other images of the same object. If you wish a copy of the raw data for scientific use, I may be able to provide you with the raw frame(s), depending on the age of the image.
All images and text, except where noted or otherwise obvious, are copyright William McLaughlin 1992-2012. Images have been marked in a subtle fashion for identification.
